Dee’s primary focus is in traditional still life, but she also finds joy in painting portraits, and landscapes. Preferring realism in her work, she paints with a “chiaroscuro” (pronounced: key-ra-skur-o) style which uses contrast and a dramatic, strong source of light to bring a viewers attention into the paintings center of interest. Her attention to detail is matched only by her intuitive use of color. Extracting beauty from common, everyday life is what brings passion to her work.
Although art is the root of Dee’s interests, she pursued another venue for expressing her creativity. Being a hairstylist and shop owner for many years, Dee finally decided to go back to her “first love” and express herself through the fine arts.
She has received numerous art awards, both locally and nationally.
When Dee is not doing hair, or painting in her studio, she can be found wandering through local antique shops around New England in pursuit of objects for her still life set ups. She has 2 grown children who are in college and pursing their careers, while she resides in Manchester, NH with her husband and their miniature schnauzer.
