Growing up in Wyoming and spending the summers in Colorado, I have always loved the outdoors. The wide open spaces, the mountains and the beautiful lighting any time of day have always intrigued me. I consider myself primarily a landscape painter, although I will paint whatever interests me. Light, shadows and contrasts are always present in my art no matter what the subject may be.
I am not an artist who paints to make a statement, rather I paint because there is so much beauty to see in the world around me. Hopefully what I do allows others to also see that beauty.
My formal training is in graphic design. I have a BA in Advertising Design from Metropolitan State College in Denver, Colorado. After a few years in that arena, then having children, I started to paint. I began with watercolors and still use them for under paintings. I painted for several years in watercolor and then became drawn to pastels because of their pure pigment and texture. They give me the bold intense colors I enjoy working with. Their texture and the way it allows me to blend colors or achieve sharp edges always surprises me.
After several moves around the country my family and I have recently moved to New Hampshire. I am excited to start painting the beautiful New England scenery.
My art has won awards and can be found in collections in Wyoming, Colorado, Washington State, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, Nebraska, Maine and now New Hampshire.
